Here's the answer: your first hire should be an AI co-founder, and it should happen in week one, before you build anything else. Not AI the way most founders use it, opening a tab, asking a question, and re-explaining their whole business next week. A chatbot answers. A co-founder remembers.
The difference is permanent context. You write four short files: who this partner is and what it optimizes for, what your business actually is, your targets and rules, and a running log of every real decision you make and why. The AI reads them at the start of every session, so it's never talking to a stranger. Files, not prompts, because a message scrolls away and a file gets read forever.
Then you install the part money can't usually buy: honesty. Written rules like "find the weakness before the strengths" and "if this conflicts with a decision I logged three months ago, say so." AI is agreeable by default. A co-founder is built to argue, and the first time it stops you from a Tuesday night pivot, it has paid for itself.
Six months in, it knows your risk appetite better than most advisors, catches connections you forgot you made, and holds you to your own plan every Friday. That memory can't be built retroactively, which is why week one matters.
The full build is Volume 2 of our Founder series.
Hire it first. It helps you build everything else.
